Recruitment 101: Prioritizing Scope of Work

Talent Recruitment Prioritizing Scope of Work

It’s no secret that talent recruitment has changed drastically over the past few years. Starting in 2020, tech firms saw a huge shift in the way work was being done, and where employees were doing it from – naturally, hiring priorities have shifted. Candidates now see that they can find jobs that are more tailored to their own lives and circumstances, and it has been incumbent on hiring managers to follow suit. At TekRek, part of providing the best recruitment experience to both our client and candidate partners is understanding market trends, and ensuring that you remain ahead of the curve. It’s no longer enough to just find the right candidates for your firm – you must sell your firm to the right candidates.

Recent surveys have shown that, within the tech sector, candidates are re-evaluating their own priorities in what they want most out of a job. One such study determined that 55% of candidates listed “scope of work” as the most important factor when considering whether to apply for or accept a position. This was consistently ranked higher than job title, external benefits, and even salary.

In terms of scope of work, job seekers want a clear outline of how their duties and responsibilities impact the business. As well, this scope of work may cover specific deliverables, timelines, milestones and reports that will be expected.

The prioritization on scope of work is not new for employees looking to add value to their firm, it is the way in which this impact is delivered and measured.  Clearly, today’s tech employees are heavily valuing work flexibility which in turn provides a balanced lifestyle in the jobs they are pursuing, and hoping to grow into. As many tech jobs have pivoted to incorporate work from home, prospective employees are mindful of not choosing a job that will expand and  monopolize their home lives. By offering clear and reasonable expectations upfront, you can signal to candidates that your firm is not just a competitive place to work, but a company that respects and values its employees.

Providing a clear and healthy scope of work with a high impact for the job your firm is advertising is an excellent way to help your firm attract top tier candidates. It is worth mentioning that scope of work may be the largest factor for job seekers, but it is not the only one. In particular, a well-balanced scope of work can make your job opening stand out, but largely among other positions where the salary is within the same ballpark.

When working for our clients to find the best and brightest candidates, TekRek relies on our highly tailored partnership process. During this evaluation stage we assess candidates’ career goals, technical skills, personality traits, and job preferences to understand their values, interests, and strengths. Once the evaluation process is complete, we use our bespoke pipeline builder service to best align them for the right company. Our goal is to find you the right candidates, by making your firm’s position stand out above the rest.
